When Your Data Campaign Is on Fire, You Don't Need a Bigger Crowd. You Need a Tiger Team.
When a frontier AI campaign starts to fail, throwing more contractors at it makes things worse. Here's how Pasiflora's Tiger Teams work and when to deploy one.
Every AI lab and frontier model team eventually hits the same wall.
A campaign that started clean six weeks ago is now bleeding. Half your contractors moved on to a different vendor. The tasks they left behind are partially complete, inconsistently labeled, and locked behind a quality bar nobody on the current bench can hit. Your internal PM is splitting time across three programs and burning out. Launch is in two weeks.
This is the moment most data vendors fail their customers. They throw more bodies at the problem. The bodies don't have context. Quality drops. The campaign limps across the finish line, or worse, gets quietly descoped.
There's a different way to handle it. At Pasiflora AI, we call it a Tiger Team.
What a Pasiflora Tiger Team actually is
Five to ten specialists. Each one a credentialed expert in the relevant domain. PhDs, MDs, JDs, senior practitioners, with prior reinforcement learning experience inside real AI training environments. Not generalists ramping up on your guidelines. People who have already done this work for frontier labs and know how to move fast without breaking quality.
We borrow the term "Tiger Team" from the way modern consulting and engineering orgs use it: a small, elite, fast-deploy crew assembled for a specific, time-bounded mission. Not the original red-team military sense, though depending on the engagement, our Tiger Teams can take on adversarial red-team work too.
Every Tiger Team member can operate in three modes interchangeably:
- Creator. Designing tasks, building prompts, generating new training or evaluation data.
- Evaluator. Scoring, scoring rubric design, quality auditing existing work.
- Mentor. Coaching newer experts on your standards so the gains compound after we leave.
Most data vendors silo these functions. We don't. The same person who built the rubric this morning can audit it this afternoon and coach a junior expert through it tomorrow. That collapse of handoffs is where the speed comes from.
What a Tiger Team is built to do
Three core deployments:
Backlog rescue.
A campaign behind schedule. Tasks queued and aging. A Tiger Team comes in, triages what's salvageable, drops what isn't, and ships the remaining workload at the original quality bar. We've seen multi-week backlogs cleared in days when the team is right.
Quality cleanup.
A campaign technically "complete" but riddled with quality issues your acceptance criteria won't pass. Tiger Team re-audits, repairs in place, and delivers a clean output without a full reshoot.
Surge production.
A new high-priority program with an accelerated timeline and no internal bandwidth to staff it. Tiger Team takes scope on day one and delivers the throughput to meet the deadline at the quality bar the program requires.
Why this works (when bigger crowds don't)
The instinct on a struggling campaign is to scale the workforce. Add tutors. Add labelers. Add reviewers. The math says volume solves it.
The math is wrong. Every new contractor onboarded into a stressed campaign costs you context, time, and quality variance before they produce a single usable output. By the time they're up to speed, the deadline is closer and the original team is more burnt out.
A small, deeply credentialed team that already knows the work cuts through that drag. Five experts who can each switch between creating, evaluating, and mentoring will outpace fifty contractors who can only do one thing each and need supervision to do it.
This is also what makes Tiger Teams genuinely different from "outsourcing more headcount." It's the opposite of that.
Where the model came from
Pasiflora's leadership team comes out of the operations side of Sepal AI before its acquisition this February. We spent years running the contractor ops layer that delivered expert data and evaluations for some of the most demanding AI training environments in the industry. We watched, repeatedly, what happens when a campaign starts to falter, and what actually saves it.
The Tiger Team model is what we built when we realized the answer wasn't a better marketplace or a fancier platform. The answer was a small group of the right people, deployed fast, trusted to operate without supervision, and held to a quality bar tighter than the customer's own.
That's the model. That's what we sell.
Who this is for
If your campaign is healthy and on schedule, you don't need a Tiger Team. Stay the course.
If you're inside a frontier AI lab or a model team and any of the following are true, we should talk:
- A live campaign is behind schedule and you can't see how to land it.
- Contractor turnover has cost you weeks of in-progress work.
- A program technically "shipped" but the quality won't survive acceptance.
- A new priority just landed and you don't have time to staff it conventionally.
- Your current vendor is the bottleneck and you need a credible second source, fast.
We deploy in days, not months. Tiger Teams come fully managed. You don't onboard contractors. You don't review CVs. You scope the work, we ship the output.
The conversation
We don't do self-serve. Every engagement starts with a scoping conversation so we get the team right the first time. If your campaign is on fire and you have 20 minutes today, we have capacity this week.
Pasiflora AI builds the human layer for frontier AI. Credentialed PhDs, MDs, JDs, and senior practitioners across hundreds of specialist fields, deployed in small expert teams that ship.
